Statement of Service for graduates

Bath Spa Careers Statement of Service 2011-12

 What is Bath Spa Careers?

Bath Spa Careers is the university careers service for Bath Spa University and provides confidential and impartial undergraduate and graduate focused careers education, information, advice and guidance. We also provide information on part-time jobs, vacation work, placements, mentoring, enterprise and business start-up as well as other graduate level opportunities. Bath Spa Careers is located in LY.101, which is on the first floor of the Newton Park library. For detailed information on the Job Shop, see Job Shop Code of Good Practice available on Career Hub.

This statement outlines the standard of service you can expect from Bath Spa Careers, and in turn what we expect from you.

Who can access Bath Spa Careers?

  • All undergraduate and postgraduate students currently enrolled full time or part time at Bath Spa University
  • Recent graduates of Bath Spa University
  • Staff employed by Bath Spa University
  • Employers and Opportunity Providers

Wessex Partnership students should access the careers service at their own further education college in the first instance.

We will support students and graduates by providing:

  • Access to professionally qualified and experienced careers consultants
  • Individual careers appointments,  drop in information and advice, and a programme of careers workshops and presentations delivered through Bath Spa Plus, and via the curriculum
  • Access to relevant and up-to-date, impartial information on careers and graduate opportunities including postgraduate study, business start up, jobs, and internships through our careers resources library, website, student and graduate newsletters, email and social media
  • Advice on CVs, application forms, interviews and assessment centre activities, and with the development of graduate level transferable skills
  • Equality of access regardless of race, ethnic origin, religion/beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, disability and age. Students and graduates are offered appropriate services including information in alternative formats including large print and braille, as well as assistance in careers appointments such as signing and note taking on request. Should our location be unsuitable, alternative venues for careers interviews and workshops will be made available.

In return, we expect students and graduates to:

  • Make use of Bath Spa Careers as early as possible in your university experience, and make use of opportunities such as relevant work experience to develop employability skills
  • Recognise that your career is your responsibility – we can help you come to a decision and will support your plans but we cannot make the decisions for you
  • Let us know if you are unable to attend your careers interview, so that we can offer the appointment to someone else
  • Keep up-to-date with the student and graduate newsletter, website and to check your email for careers-related messages
  • Let us know your views to help us continually improve by using the ‘Comments Box’ located at Bath Spa Careers, or by emailing your comments to careers@bathspa.ac.uk
