TEFL

General Information

Many people finance their travel abroad by teaching English as a foreign language. English is still the language of international communications and there is a worldwide demand for teachers. You may want to consider taking a formal TEFL qualification that is accepted worldwide, as it may be easier to obtain work (the pay and working conditions are generally better for qualified teachers).

TEFL Training

The most widely recognised and available qualification is the Certificate in the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language to Adults (CELTA).

A similar qualification, The Certificate in Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).

Both courses combine theory and practice and take around four weeks full time (part time options are also available). Courses can cost between £700 - £1000. There are several local options available in Bath, Bristol and on campus at Newton Park during the summer vacation.
