Considering further or Postgraduate study
Postgraduate study overseas
Studying abroad requires careful planning and preparation.
Timing:
Start at least 18 months in advance (particularly for US based courses) and be aware of differences in academic year timetables.
Applications:
You may be required to produce any or all of the following: CV, application form, academic transcript (of all modules/grades) certificates, references, aptitude tests, language proficiency, health certificates and evidence of financial support.
Acceptability of Qualifications:
A first or upper second degree will meet most eligibility criteria, but as UK degree programmes are shorter than other countries, views of academic standing can vary.
Costs:
This varies considerably between countries. In the EU education is subsidised and should cost no more than students from the home country. Other countries can be far more expensive. For example, in the US an application alone can cost more than £50. Check for all of the available sponsorships and awards which may be applicable to a particular country or institution.
