A First Job in a Charity or Not-for-Profit organisation

Look at the AGCAS Sector Briefing for the Voluntary Sector, which has useful information, links and an overview. Copies of these are available to view or download from the Prospects website.

Prospects website also has an ‘explore types of job’ section which includes job profiles of over 800 occupations. Information for each job covers salary and conditions, entry requirements, training and career development, typical employers/vacancy sources, related jobs and case studies, contacts and resources.

Events and Careers Fairs

Look at the What’s On section of this website for events, information days and fairs etc.

Prospects website has a general careers fair section, searchable by type of event and location.

www.exhibitions.co.uk lists trade fairs, exhibitions and events throughout the UK. The database searches by subject, location or date.

The Voluntary Sector Skills Council and The NCVO (the umbrella body for the voluntary Sector in England), lists regional and national events.

Further Training and Development

Working for a Charity is an organisation that runs courses and introductory sessions to the charity sector. Check out their website at www.wfac.org.uk

The Fundraising Programme organise training courses for all levels www.thefundraisingprogramme.org.uk

Voluntary Sector Skills, a site developed by the UK Workforce Hub with funding from the Big Lottery Fund, contains information on qualifications relevant to staff, volunteers and trustees working in voluntary and community organisations.
